Mansion update.
Aug. 5th, 2011 08:31 pmTo those who think my lack of updates means I'm not working on something: I finally got my ass in gear and completed the first floor of the Red Wing (the final wing that needs completion). Yes, I'll be working on the next two floors--I already have them planned out on paper that sits beside my computer. This way, though, I'll be able to work on it over the next few days. Hopefully the mansion part will be finished and then I can get to work on the outside of it. Yay for mazes and gardens and pools and towers. -sigh-
more of this
Jul. 31st, 2011 02:08 pmMore State of Grace work.

Granted, I finally figured out how this chapter's going to go. So the progress should be easier now.
EDIT1 (11:47 pm): So over a long talk with Chellis and my Daddy (mostly my Daddy), I managed to get the entire first book planned out! So Yay! All I have to do is now write The Death of Someone! :D

I hate it when...
Jul. 30th, 2011 09:05 pmOne character in a scene is really chatty, but the other one won't talk at all. What the hell, Damien, you were all talkative earlier, but once I got Killian to speak up you completely stopped. :( You make me sad. Work with me, please.
On the upside, I'm working on State of Grace: The Death of Someone again.
(will update as I go)

vlogs... again
Jul. 29th, 2011 12:52 pmOkay, so I finally went and got index cards today (mostly because I was already in Staples for packaging tape, but that's a whole other, really long story). Not to mention, it took me about ten minutes of wandering the store with a completely lost expression on my face and not receiving any help in order to find the damn note cards. On the other hand, I now have about a bajillion extra, so I'll never need to go find them again.
Anyway, so I have the first card written out. I'll be working on getting the other ones done too, but it'll take a few days before I can actually start the process of shooting the video I need for them. I plan to have the living/dining room rearranged before then so it doesn't look like I'm living in a hell hole.
Oh, btw, one last day and I've more than met my goal for this month ;) I win!
EDIT1 (2:56pm): Actually, I got all of the note cards done. Go me! Plus, everything looks awesome now! I still won't be actually doing the video for a couple more days at least. I still need to find/make images and such to cut into the video. I want everything prepared.

vlogs and stuff
Jul. 26th, 2011 11:36 pmSo I have nine Vlogs I'll be doing in November and I've gotten the points of interest marked down in a word doc. Tomorrow I'll be going to Staples to get some index cards (because I can't find any here). Then I'll have to accumulate sources and links and perhaps some images to compliment my Vlogs.
Also, I ran this all past my Daddy and Chellis and both agree that they don't see that I'm missing anything as far as topics go.
In addition, I finished copying over everything from Angels of Shard: Our Guardians into my new notebook as well as The Weeping Year. I'm now working on Paper Fireflies and The Runner and getting everything in one place.
As for my goal for the month, I've already written over the 25,000 I'd wanted to. Just not all in one place, like I had originally hoped for. Hahaha, oh well. At least I've written a whole bunch! I still have another three days, too.

Odd Coincidence
Jul. 26th, 2011 02:26 amSo I was reading a thread on the NaNoWriMo forums (Fantasy) and it was mentioning Loki and Sigyn. As soon as I saw it, I had to go find out who Sigyn was (I've never really studied Norse Mythology before) and was astounded to see that Sigyn was married to Loki.
Now why this interested me so:
Lyki and Signy are brother and sister in State of Grace. I knew Lyki's name since the beginning, knew he had a sister and randomly chose her name based on meaning and origin. I find it rather coincidental that this happened and hope that once I do actually get my series finished and/or published, that readers do not read too much into this. It wasn't exactly meant to happen that way. However, I'm not going to change it. I like the two of them the way they are. :P

upheaval and such
Jul. 25th, 2011 09:58 pmAfter my talk with my sister, I sent her what I had so far of Paper Fireflies and wanted her opinion on it. It's been a while and I've been having trouble getting in contact with her. I've been loathe to continue work on it in case I'm going to end up tweaking the beginning a bit. So today I finally had enough waiting around and decided to do some organizing of my notes on all of my up-and-comings. I got three new BIG binders for 30 cents at the ReStore (which is awesome) and picked up a 5-subject notebook and some pens at Staples.
All in all, I decided to move the notes from the State of Grace to a larger binder (the one it's in right now is basically overflowing), and put five of my stand alone novels in the 5-subject notebook. Since I purchased them I've been working on getting notes and stuff copied over or moved into the right places.
So I've been busy giving my stuff a new set-up and been working on side-stories and little bits and pieces of things here and there. I've also been thinking about the Vlogs recently. Should be fun. For now, though, I'm going to take a break and grab a shower then go to Steak and Shake :P

working, working, working
Jul. 14th, 2011 07:51 amAs far as Paper Fireflies goes, I'm working on Chapter Two and have planned up to Chapter Four.

On a touch of the embarrassing side: I had to Google whether or not Fireflies actually hung out in Georgia. D: My Encyclopedic mind was lacking in knowledge of that specific quandary. Good thing I know now, though, right?
EDIT1 (11:04 am): Researched PTSD for Katherine. I then had an hour and a half long conversation with my sister Erica about how to make the character realistic, how I had my novel started, where I wanted it to go and such. I'm very glad that I talked with her, she opened my eyes to a lot of issues I didn't even know I was having. :) Yay for Erica!

So I have my half of the website done. DC Saylor has her part done. Now I just need to work on the middle bit! So that's good news!
I've been writing bits and pieces of short stories. The end result: very disjointed writing that isn't very good. :( I'm going to have to step up my game.
I've also been working on figuring out what I'm going to say in my upcoming Vlog series for November's NaNoWriMo.
So things are getting done.
Also, Be Happy, Idiot is now available on the Border's Books Kobo eReader. :D

character profiles II

I take my time with them ;) I'll be giving a more in-depth review of how I do my character profiles in October while going through preparations for November's NaNoWriMo.
Paper Fireflies update
Jul. 2nd, 2011 03:38 pmWorking on Paper Fireflies today, aiming to get the first chapter finished. Almost finished now.

As a note: I've been finding that my characters don't want to let the chapters end :/ They like to drag it out. I'm quite surprised, actually, because usually it's a bugger to just get them to talk.
EDIT1 (3:46pm): finished Chapter One. Now for a break before going on.

After the trip...
Jul. 1st, 2011 10:07 pmOkay, so... I've been chilling for a week after I returned from a whole week up in my hometown. Granted, I should have picked up writing ASAP, I didn't. I tried to with Paper Fireflies, but nothing was really coming out. As for reaching my goal for the month: I blame the trip for taking too much out of me (read as: I didn't reach my goal). However, this month (July) I plan to actually write those 25,000 words I planned to write for last month (and ended up falling wayyyyy short of).
Tonight I've been sporadically working on The Death of Someone (AKA Book One of the Series). So far very strained, but still pushing through it. I want to write, dammit.

character profiles
Jun. 11th, 2011 06:53 pmI've been having trouble sitting down and writing lately. I've been trying to work it into my daily schedule for now (because I'm trying to get ready for the trip up to Vermont). I'm sure once that's over and done with everything will even out and I'll get back to writing every day. However, I have started doing some of the character profiles for Paper Fireflies. I have Katherine's finished and I'm working on Jeremiah's at the moment (about half-way done). Keep in mind, my profiles are very detailed and in-depth. I work a couple of hours on a single profile to get it perfect. I include reference photos and such for anything I deem necessary.
At some point I should show you all the list of questions I fill out for each profile. I'll probably do that toward November, though, when I can do a Vlog of it.
Edit1 (9:09pm): finished Jeremiah and Aaron. Want to get Becky done before the night is done. :)

a possible project
Jun. 8th, 2011 06:52 amWell, Chellis (my boyfriend, for those who might not know) is starting to work on making a game of his own. I've been sort of volunteered as a writer for characters and stuff, so that could be really cool.
We'll see how it goes. All I know about it so far is it's a steampunk shooter. I'm guessing a first person shooter, but I'm not sure. I'm mostly staying out of it for now until they say they need me. In return I will demand editing of my works. :P

domain name
Jun. 6th, 2011 04:29 amSo I finally got around to purchasing D.C. Saylor's and my domain name. We now have BirchBarkPaper[dot]com. However, we're still playing around with images and layout options, so it's definitely not up yet. We plan to have the site up and running by the first part of July.
Later today I'm going to an eye appointment, so hopefully this means I'll get new contacts in the near future and whole bunches of other stuff. (Like maybe a pair of glasses!) We'll see though.
As for writing, I'm planning on getting another 2k done today (maybe finishing up Chapter One of Paper Fireflies?).

more writing getting done!
Jun. 4th, 2011 07:19 amI missed yesterday, so I'm gonna have to play catch up. On the upside, I've already sold 10 copies of Be Happy, Idiot.
Back to Paper Fireflies, though; I plan to have this be about the same length as Be Happy, Idiot, but written over the span of two or three months (since I didn't specify that my 25000 words would be written on just one project, it might be broken up into a three month stint). However, I'm hoping that this way I'll have that one in the editing process once I start up my NaNoWriMo for this year (which I plan to either be working on The Runner or Book One of The Series).
