Yes, I'm working on this again. Yes, I've been enjoying the squid scene a bit too much. Yes, I have finally forced Damien to stop playing with the squids and go to his Mum's dinner party so he can meet Killian.

Go me?

Don't worry, I'll keep working on it throughout the day. :D

Okay, update first! So initially I was working on a sketch for a very young Killian, and I'm still working on that one, but this one came popping out. Otherwise, I've been busy with getting College information and getting my apartment spruced up (we got a washer/dryer and a bed!) So I apologize for the lateness of it, but here's the first one!

The setting is Damien and Killian after the Series.

I've had a few people ask about what the Series is about ([livejournal.com profile] randomgoddess3 for one! :D). So I decided that I would sit down and tell you all about it!

First and foremost, I've been working on this Series since my freshman year of High School, my Senior year I took a whole course based on working on writing the first book in the series, which resulted in this journal.

The main characters are Damien Dwyre and Lyki Velief. They are growing up in a world inside of our own, where magic is real, but so are politics. Unfortunately for these two boys, they have to deal with politics straight off the bat--their families lead their causes. With this in mind, not all politicians are great people; Emmerick's mind has been a little twisted and his moral compass is misguided. He offers some of the party members' children a "favor" if they will do him a favor. None of them agree to this but Lyki, who ends up being manipulated. The children start dying, or have attempts made on their lives, but no one knows who or what's behind it. Damien seems to think it's Lyki while Lyki is trying to stop Emmerick. This spans over six books.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I hope it's clear (and this is just the main plot, mind you ;) ).

Well, not really any sort of epiphany. I've hauled out the old character sketches done on Damien's family and drafted them anew. I realized I didn't really put much thought into their powers, so I worked on that and gave Damien a reason as to why he was the way he was. Damien is largely the same, but now he has a different ability to start with. It should be interesting writing an Empath, to be honest I'm not sure how much emphasis will be put on it. Probably a lot. It's odd for men, in general.

Don't worry, I won't make him too girly ;) Actually, he's not very girly at all.

On the upside, I'm approaching 1,000 words into the first chapter. Not sure how to name each chapter, or the series, or the books. I'm.... disappointed in myself. I usually have names all sorted by the time I start writing. I guess this will be a different experience. For a while, anyway.

As for the original bit about Lyki, that should stay pretty much the same. Might re-write it and make it a better scene, though. As for the character you see in that, well... it's largely the same.

EDIT: scratch that, Chapter One is named: "I Know You Know". Apt, I think, considering what's in it. (Mostly the title is pertaining to the relationship Lyki and his father have.)

So, with Chell's help I've managed to pretty much rework my Series. I decided how many books it would be (six, if you're wondering), and the plot for each of them. The only thing I'm stuck on is the last book. I know how I want the Series to end, but the ending will be something like the last half/quarter of the book. I don't know what to do with the first bit of the book, though. This has severely frustrated me.

However, I have also reworked Lyki's character sketch. I still need to redo Damien's because I sort of changed their characters and solidified them, but otherwise the sketch won't change much.

I'm going to be working on titles. I want them to somewhat go together, but I want the Series title to be slightly different than the book titles. So, I'm going to trudge around and see what I can come up with. I always work better when a title is in place (and I like the feeling of my work having a title, so I have something to call it while I'm working on it instead of just "the series" and "book one of the series" and so on).

I'm also going to be taking breaks, periodically, and working on editing Be Happy, Idiot, seeing as I've got a few things to change up.

So, for the past few days I've realized I'm unhappy with the start to my Series. I love the first chapter, but the subsequent writing isn't what I wanted. So, I talked about my problems with my wonderful hubby, Chellis. He helped me realize I was unhappy with my main characters as well as lack of plot. So I remedied one of the problems immediately.

Initially both boys (Lyki and Damien) were supposed to be the hardly ever found Etzlix. Well, obviously there's a bit of a Mary Sue problem there. I wanted to address that. We tossed around ideas of Lyki being a werewolf and vampire. I trashed those ideas instantly. First off, they just aren't Lyki to me. Secondly, we don't need Harry Potter meets Twilight. That's not my aim in the least. So I found my Faery Book on the bookshelf and got to reading. I found that Elves (yes, normal run of the mill [not LotR] elves) fit Lyki to a T.

So yes, now I'm awake when I should have been sleeping and I'm willing to take a look at what I wrote three years ago and how I want to change it. Pretty much completely. First order of business: complete upheaval of plot.

So in lieu of figuring out the architecture to inspire the school in Finland (Bedivere's International School of Learning Advanced Studies) I found some architecture to inspire the gothic style mansion that Damien would be moving into once he moves to England from Minnesota. This will be labeled the 'Dwyre Mansion' for now.

So I want most of this mansion (which will have many floors more than say a regular mansion) to be black, grey, tan, or brown. This mansion is a good example of the steps I want preceding the mansion as well as the window shape. The towers on this castle resemble the turrets I expect to be on the Dwyre mansion. However, that castle doesn't represent the grandness that I see being in this fictional mansion. The columns seen on this mansion is close to what I consider to be framing the front door, the sheer height of what I wish to see is not there, yet in this one the columns are exactly what I have in mind (excepting the fact that there would only be two and not four). The inside of the Dwyre Mansion, as I see it should not only be from expensive materials such as marble, granite, and other such rocks: but expensive woods will give it a life all its own such as this railing.
Thinking about outside of the mansion now I believe that the mansion would be older and so not only have a wrought iron gate (which wouldn't hold back armies) but a wall of stone. This would also produce a courtyard effect and so room for Damien to move about without being 'outside'. It's suggested that a garden walk would be perfect for the ladies, even if when Damien and his mother moves in it hasn't been well managed. This would give Kaleigh something to do while Damien's away at school. Cleaning up a garden walk would be a huge undertaking. On the upside, I think it would give the feeling that she's kind of isolated from society for a bit (since she can't speak with Freya, Lyki's mother due to political differences).

Now for outside the mansion walls the structure would thusly carry lookout towers. Having the towers slightly concealed by plant life would be beneficial in days when wars would be at their height. How these can be used now is for Damien's 'hangout' spot: somewhere to get away and think while he's home for holidays. Or potentially hide out to avoid guests.

In the long run I should look more carefully at this blog since they have tons of pictures of castles/mansions.

So it's around 10:30-11:00 at night and I got fired from work today. That was the first major sign, I think, that apparently I need to get my life together. So now I've been working on the Series for a few hours. I've managed to finish gathering information about Damien's parents' names. Which are as follows: Kaleigh Caoilfhinn Blaire (mother) and Devlin Kenyon Dwyre (father). I also did their character descriptions which took forever. But I think I did a good job in choosing names without knowing too much about their meanings.

As for the first/second chapter: Laura helped me plan out the scenes and we talked about Damien's relationship with his parents and the relationship of the political beliefs that each of the main characters in connection to the others. In addition to that I know I need to complete a couple of more things (political party type things) before I go ahead and write. That may be tomorrow morning's gig though, since I'm tired.
deepintrospect: (candycraze)
Right now I'm really hyped up on not only candy, but a Monster energy drink, and I'm really excited for my meeting with Laura today. I thought of something yesterday and promptly wrote it down. It's a partial scene (mostly dialogue) for something in the middle chapters of the first book. It has to do with how other students in Damien Dwyre's (my main character's) dorm feel about him (since he's from a really influential family). I have a lot of plot down, I need to write genetics for the Etzlix Gene plus identifying the helper genes. I need to finish a couple of maps, figure out a name for the boarding school they will be attending... but all in due time, I suppose. I think part of the school will be castle, part will be modern housing and buildings. It's in Finland. Can you tell I'm more worried about the school than the characters at the moment?
I have Lyki Velief's (other main character) family somewhat mapped out. Should I do a Geneology chart? Probably. I need to make a government, the politics need to be solid, and a sort of timeline for this "world within a world". Oh well. It'll get done. Along with character sketches and names. No worries. I finished Lyki's (excepting the 'drawing conclusions' I'll probably do that tonight since I have nothing else to do.)
As a side note: the internet is a wonderful thing. I'm glad that I'm so adventurous. At least if anything goes wrong it's to my $500 laptop and not my body. Tch, shows you how selfish I am I guess.
I'll write more after the meeting, I'll see what I get done.
