That's right, everyone, the day has come! My first book Be Happy, Idiot is now available to be purchased in paperback!

Remember, I have self-published this title, so all advertising is done by myself and my friends and family. If you like this book, or even just want to help--tell your friends, neighbors and family about it! If you have a book club who might be interested, let them know about it! I appreciate any and all gestures :)

Okay, so first: the website domain name will be purchased tomorrow! I've found a few stock images for free that I can use on my website (plus it's legal :D) so it should be great! I'll be playing around with those in a bit.

The BIG NEWS: Well, my book is coming out on MAY 30TH. Yes, that's correct, my first book Be Happy, Idiot is published and will be available for purchase in two days' time. So have those debit or credit cards in hand!

On the same topic, I will be foisting adverts up for it on every available surface, contacting the local library tomorrow, talking to my old High School's librarian (who is amazing) plus I'll be checking with the Jaquith Library (Marshfield Village Library [aka the town I grew up in]).

The third round of info: I've been thinking about the up-coming NaNoWriMo and thought it would be pretty cool to get myself a YouTube account and make daily videos about my progress throughout the month. That way friends and family can keep current with what I'm working on/doing and have input if they want! I actually can't wait to start, seeing as I think it'll be great fun :)

Book One, The Series:

The Runner:

Why yes, I have been working on them a bit. I've been really working on the website with D. C. Saylor and publishing stuff, though, so it's okay that I've been a bit slow with these.
deepintrospect: (what?)
Since my Dad came down from my home state of Vermont to join Chellis and I in sunny and warm Florida, I've been busy--but not just with entertaining him. He also agreed to help me figure out the "legalese" part of publishing. So I've figured out exactly what I'm doing and paying in order to publish my first book. I'm not about to share that here, but I will say that I found a couple of ways to maximize my income as opposed to having them take a larger cut out of it. I probably wouldn't have been able to figure out any of this if not for my Dad. So he's been incredibly helpful!

All I'm saying is that I should be able to get my book out by the end of this month.

As for the site, D.C. Saylor and I have been working on ideas for the layout. She's been looking at the hosting sites and I am prepared to purchase the domain name. :) So not long after I have my book officially published, I'll have my official site up and running!

I'm finally able to take off. :D

However, I must end this post with: Frickin' terms of agreement and legalese shit is really confusing.

So I learned more about self-publishing through Twitter--go figure, huh? I was searching the hashtag "selfpublishing" to see if it was used a lot or not, and found a link posted to an article that summarized the venues to which one can digitally publish their books.

Also, I plan to get a job soon so that way I can put money into publishing my book(s) and therefore get myself out there.

yay!

Okay, so I'm thinking about publishing.

Overall, I don't think I'm going to get an Agent and Publisher--not yet. I like the idea of self-publishing, it appeals to me. However, if I was going to get an Agent and Publisher, I'd want to know how. I have no idea as it stands right now.

As for self-publishing, I'm looking into the realm of digital as well as paperback novels.

I plan to talk with my Dad about the legal, tax information stuff. He's good with that and if he doesn't know off the top of his head, he has ways to find out quickly and explain it to me in terms I can deal with.

But does anyone know anything? I'm looking for articles, know-how, all that sort of stuff. Anything and everything.

I just have to be in the mood. I finally am in such a mood and managed to edit one third of Be Happy, Idiot. I have ten chapters left to edit and plan to get at least another five done tonight. It's all a process. I want to have the hard copy I won for completing the NaNoWriMo in my hands by the time my Dad visits in May.

In any case, I'll be working on that for the next few days.

Okay, I lied. I finished editing it tonight. Yes, it is 2 am. But still, now all I need to do is make it a PDF and an official manuscript before I get my free copy. Then I'll do a bit of poking around before I decide whether to publish it hardcopy or do it digitally, where to do it, etc. Anyone have any useful information on that?

EDIT2 (2:24am): okay, made the PDF file.
